Three Camels Lodge
By Rachel
Now, for the lux portion of our trip. The Three Camels Lodge is run by Nomadic Expeditions, and is advertised as a high-class eco-tourism ger camp in the Gobi. We arrived mid-morning, and were greeted by a staff running quickly towards the parking area to greet us. Our luggage was loaded on carts and we were spirited into the enormous khan-sized restaurant ger for water and tea.
The gers were very comfortable and the food was great. We enjoyed the oasis of clean dishes that we did not have to wash.

We went on two expeditions from Three Camels, one to some small nearby mountains and another to the Gurvan Saikhan National Park. The first hike was through a pointy rock factory, with a few petroglyphs and a lot of very strong wind.

The next day we visited Yolan Am, which Charlie and I first saw during our trip to the Gobi in March. The river was still frozen, but the land around it was greener and warmer. Lucky pointed out a few ibex and Charlie and I saw a wild gerbil!

On our way home we stopped for another windy hike, this time over some rounder, grassier hills. Lucky spotted some big horn sheep far far away and we got to try to see them through the binoculars.
