A Sad Day for Mongolia
By Charlie
It’s a sad day for Mongolia.
Not because thieves tried again last night to steal the power cable that serves our building, causing another day without power:

Not because it was cold and windy today during our tank driving and gun shooting extravaganza:

Not because we ran out of gas coming back from the military extravaganza and had to coast into the gas station – literally! No exaggeration! No Joke!
Not because some corrupt Mongolian ministers have turned over a huge swath of the Gobi to some shady American developers who want to put a casino in the Mongolian town of Zamiin Uud, on the Chinese border.
Not because corruption is rampant and nobody cares.
Not because the famous Moogii stood me up yesterday – AGAIN!
No. Today is a sad day for Mongolia because The Great Jimmy Walker is heading for the airport at this hour and is leaving the country after a fabulous six-month run.

Jimmy celebrated his last day in Mongolia by driving a T-55 Soviet tank and an armored personnel carrier of unknown vintage. He also shot a pistol and an AK-47. It was a real party.

Before emptying a few magazines out on the range, Jimmy also emptied the contents of his apartment into our apartment. It was a bonanza! This evening, under great duress, Jimmy even handed over his cell phone to the Editorial Staff of The Five Snout Daily.
It was these kinds of classy and selfless efforts that made Jimmy such a hit in Mongolia. He had time for everyone. He tolerated everything. Last week, at the zenith of his tenure, Jimmy produced the first interview with an HIV-positive Mongolian ever to be broadcast on Mongolian television.
Bon Voyage, Jimmy Walker. Bon Voyage, Thank You and Farewell.
