Hovsgol, Quickly

By Charlie

So here’s where we have been for the past few days:

That’s Lake Hovsgol in north-central Mongolia. It is stunningly beautiful.

But this is Mongolia and screwed up shit happens in Mongolia. For example, someone drove their Russian truck into the lake.

No biggie. They just got another truck and pulled it out.

We stayed at a wonderful ger camp on the lake.

It was really comfortable and friendly. The light was amazing.

The daughter of the camp manager, Chinguun, was a real trip. Here she is “reading” a revisionist history of Genghis Khan with my good friend, Tamir.

Chinguun is very talented at getting foreign visitors to give her cigarettes, money and empty (mostly) bottles of alcohol.

We flew up to the lake on this excellent Cessna 206 Grand Caravan. Wow! Thanks to Big O for doing it up Hovsgol Style.

I took one day out of this trip to visit Radio Hovsgol in Muron, about three hours south of the lake. CLICK HERE to read my thick report on this very good station. Pictures are included.
